What is a Diffuser?

A diffuser sits within the ceiling surround of your skylight, helping to distribute natural light evenly throughout the space. Some options also allow airflow where ventilation is required.

There are three main diffuser types:

OPAL DIFFUSER

Softens light and reduces glare, creating a smooth, even finish ideal for most residential spaces.

PRISMATIC DIFFUSER

Maximises and spreads light more sharply, delivering a brighter, crisper finish throughout the room.

GLOCELL DIFFUSER

Allows airflow while diffusing light, ideal for areas where ventilation and brightness are both important.

OPAL DIFFUSER

A 3mm Opal Acrylic Diffuser is included with all skylight kits. It provides soft, diffused natural light while reducing glare, making it an ideal choice for most residential spaces, including kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways.

PRISMATIC DIFFUSER

A Prismatic Diffuser is designed with a textured surface that helps spread light evenly throughout a room. It brightens spaces with a crisp, clear effect and is a popular option for areas where maximum light output is desired.

EGG CRATE (GLOCELL) DIFFUSER

Egg Crate Diffuser is suited to specialised environments. Its open design promotes airflow and heat dissipation, making it a practical choice in areas that require ventilation, such as laundries, commercial kitchens or high-humidity zones.

Opal Diffuser

What is the Opal diffuser?

A 3mm opal acrylic diffuser is the standard option supplied with all skylight kits. It sits withing the ceiling surround and softens incoming light to create a comfortable, evenly lit space.

What is the diffuser made of?

Manufactured from opal acrylic, it gently diffuses daylight to reduce glare while still allowing strong light output.

Can the Opal diffuser be cleaned easily?

Can the Prismatic diffuser be cleaned easily?

Yes. It can be cleaned with a soft cloth, warm water and a mild detergent.

What are the advantages of the Prismatic diffuser?

Delivers a brighter, crisper light finish while evenly distributing light, making it ideal where maximum light output is preferred.

Glocell (Egg Crate) Diffuser

What is the Glocell diffuser?

Need a Custom Size Skylight Diffuser?

If your diffuser is cracked, discoloured or damaged, Garron Skylights can supply custom-cut replacement panels to suit a wide range of existing skylights.

Many older systems use non-standard sizes, making off-the-shelf replacements difficult to find. We can help identify the correct size and provide a diffuser designed to fit your existing ceiling surround.

Replacing your diffuser is a simple, cost-effective way to restore the quality of light in your space without replacing the entire skylight.

FAQ'S

Frequently Asked Questions
About Skylight Diffusers

Yes. In many cases the diffuser panel can be replaced without removing the skylight itself. A replacement diffuser can restore the appearance and performance of your skylight.

Over time exposure to sunlight, heat and ageing materials can cause diffuser panels to become discoloured or brittle. Replacing the diffuser can improve both light quality and the appearance of the ceiling.

Diffusers are usually sized to fit the ceiling surround. Measuring the existing panel or contacting a skylight specialist can help ensure the correct replacement size is supplied.

Yes. Most diffuser panels can be cleaned using a soft cloth, warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners that may scratch the surface.

The best diffuser depends on the room and the lighting effect you want. Opal diffusers soften light, prismatic diffusers maximise brightness and Glocell diffusers allow airflow for ventilated skylight systems.
